Nautical Trends

When the sun is shining and the summer months are at their peak, we can’t help but find ourselves dreaming about living near the sea. How perfect would it be to wake up to an incomparable view every morning, with the sound of the ocean waves.

Sadly, this dream may not be such an easy reality when day to day life kicks in and you realise a five-hour commute to London from a beautiful coastal town is likely to wear thin or you just simply can’t make the move fit around other commitments, for now.

So why not bring the seaside into your home, with nautically inspired décor trends? Our coastal designs have been a popular choice for a number of years and we felt it was time to reintroduce them for the Summer months.

One of our favourite coastal designs is our Seahorse table lamp, Sayer. There are only two species of Seahorse in UK waters and they symbolise persistence and friendliness. When we initially designed the concept for a coastal collection we simply had to include Sayer, after all, Seahorses are a much-loved connotation of the coast.

Sayer is handmade from resin in our Cotswold workshop and looks striking in its stone jesomite effect, enhancing the nautical desire.

Sold as base only, we recommend a tapered drum shade to perfectly finish this stylish look. Our shades are individually handmade by The Light Shade Studio and can be ordered in any of the colours featured in our silk fabric library or an entirely bespoke fabric of your choice. Another nautical favourite is our Yacht table lamp, which invokes delightful design with remarkable craftsmanship. Each Yacht is intricately hand painted and christened “Northern Star” although this can be painted to a bespoke requirement if requested.

The unique table is sold complete with a white sail shade and tastefully finished with a blue and white hull.

Next up, is our Orb pendant which can be featured in a variety of settings, but for us, it will forever be an iconic coastal design. The first Orb was launched in 2012 and the collection has soared with popularity ever since.

One of our most memorable images has to be the Orbs on Polzeath Beach, over-looking Puffin Island. It will always be a photoshoot to remember, taking such sizeable pendants onto a Cornish Beach but the idyllic sunset and fabulous shot made sure the hard work paid off!

Our Orb pendants can be painted in any of our palette colours and we are proud to be able to offer a bespoke service for our customers who are looking for something different than what we offer in our standard collections. We work with BS4800, RAL and most domestic paint manufacturers so Orb and many of our other designs can be made to your exact colour specification.

Finally, sufficient and stylish outdoor lighting is essential for creating your desired garden ambiance. Why not introduce our marine inspired outdoor lighting such as the Admiral. Made from solid brass and available in Nickel, Brass, Antique Copper or Antique Brass; offering appealing aesthetics and nautical desire.
